How to Join First Church -
If you are interested in joining
First
Church, please contact Rev. Ken Klemme at 859-233-0545 ext 38 or ken@1stumc.org. He will schedule
a visit with one of the pastors to discuss your becoming a member of
First Church. Below are ways we receive people into membership of the
church:
Confession of Faith
The initial entrance into membership in
the church, when one confesses faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
Reaffirmation of
Faith
One's renewing of the initial
confession of faith after a period of inactivity or not being on a
church membership roll.
By
Profession of Faith and Baptism
If you are not now a baptized
Christian, one of the Pastors will be happy to discuss your baptism and
church membership with you.
Renewal of
Membership
Returning as a former member of this
church.
By
Transfer from another United Methodist Church
Simply mark the
attendance sheet "Wish to Join", or call the office. Someone will promptly
contact you. It is not necessary for you to write to your former church.
First United Methodist will handle the details of transfer for you.
By
Transfer from another Christian Denomination
The process is very much like the one
above. Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will
not be repeated. You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all
members of the United Methodist Church:
"Will
you be loyal to the United
Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, your presence, your
gifts and your service?”
Transfer of your Membership
from a Denomination that will not accept your transfer across
Denominational lines
Your baptism is accepted. You will be
asked to re-confirm your faith.
How
to "Join" without "Joining"
If you are a United Methodist whose
membership is in another city or state and your wish to retain that
membership in your "home" church, you can become an Affiliate
Member. This grants you pastoral care and concern, fellowship
and full participation (including the holding of church office) in First
United Methodist Church. You will not be counted on the First United
Methodist Church Membership Roll, but on the roll of your
"home" church. The Pastor will write your "home"
church Pastor informing him/her of your Affiliate Member status.
Associate
Members
Members of other Christian
denominations may elect to become Associate
Members under the same conditions listed above, but may not
vote.
