Andover Campus celebrates first
anniversary!
Nearly 180 people gathered in worship on October
5, 2008, and helped celebrate Andover's first anniversary as a worshipping
congregation in that neighborhood. Andover is a "sister" church of First
United Methodist Church, downtown on High Street, and is part of our church's
multi-site plan to established other locations besides downtown to reach out
into other neighborhoods. Referred to as "Two locations. One firm
foundation," First Church is overjoyed to celebrate this one-year milestone of a
church family that has been worshipping since 1789.

multi-site system, click here... |

Andover
Campus Hosts
Iraqi Family
Kentucky Refugee Ministry (KRM) has asked First Church Andover to host a
refugee family fleeing from Iraq. We have agreed to help this family of five
make the transition to the US and in particular Lexington, KY. The family
arrived on July 22nd and moved into an apartment that our Andover Campus
furnished for them. In addition to furnishings for the apartment, they are
providing transportation for family as they make their way to the Social
Security office and other places within the first several weeks. Please pray for
this family as they adjust to American life. |
Church Offices and Staff
Have Moved to Rokeby Hall...
The next time you visit the church
offices, come to 318 So. Mill St., or
Rokeby Hall, the gold building
adjacent to our downtown parking lot. We have added 8 offices to this
197-year-old historic home. There are four parking spaces for weekday
visitors near Mill St.
First Church Honored as a
Mission Ambassador Church
At Annual
Conference this past June, fourteen churches received awards naming them Mission
Ambassador Churches. We are
pleased and humbled to be honored as one of the recipients. To be a Mission
Ambassador Church, you must be a congregation who participates in at least five
of the six tracks of mission giving during the Conference year.
The six
tracks are:
- 100% of
our Covenant Together commitment (also called apportionments)
- One
World Advance Special
- One
National Advance Special
- One
Conference Advance Special
- A
minimum of three (3) Special Day Offerings of the seven proposed by General
Conference and listed in the Discipline
- Giving
to UMCOR (One Great Hour of Sharing or otherwise)
Attaining
this level of caring through our joyful giving would not be possible without
your faithful and sacrificial generosity. You are touching lives everyday
through the avenues listed above. In the words of John Wesley, the world truly
is our parish, and you are a very personal part of it.
For more
information about the various ways of giving through our Conference, National
and World Advance Specials, Special Day Offerings, and UMCOR (United Methodist
Committee on Relief), go to
