First United Methodist Church offers a wide variety of Sunday School classes.  There is sure to be one for you!
Bart Peak

Teacher: Rotates among class members, includes lay persons and retired ministers.
Meets in Slaton Chapel
Ages: Working and retired couples and singles

Typical attendance ranges from 30 to 40 people. The class uses the Adult Bible Studies from the International Lesson Series. Members demonstrate a concerned interest in and for each other, as well as other members and friends of the church. They observe illnesses, celebrations, birthdays, and anniversaries.

The class enjoys several potluck dinners during the year as well as frequent coffee and refreshment times before class. This class is a fellowship-loving group.

Through the class budget and giving, the class helps support various mission areas, including Nathaniel United Methodist Mission, High Street Neighborhood Center, UMCOR, the Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth, Wesley Foundation and Hope Center.

Bible Study Class

This lecture-style class covers the background, history and contents of the Old and New Testament books and themes. The Bible Study class is designed to meet the needs of those who want a broader understanding of the Bible. The class focuses on characters, events and themes in the Bible.

BLT (Bible Learning & Teaching)

Teachers: Tim Mowery, Vickie Heierman & Dulaney Wood
Meets in Room 1
Ages: 30 and up, singles or couples

This class focuses on Biblical studies, current events and occasional special topics. The format is reading and discussion. The class engages in social activities including participation in the Baby Boomers activities of the church and in various sports programs and service projects.

Ages: 30 and up

Uses Faith Link online United Methodist curriculum based on current issues, sent by e-mail to class members weekly, discussion oriented.

Cornerstone

Bible study and discussion for young adult couples, with or without children.

Dorothy Hays Class

Teacher: Ann Asbury

Ages: 60+


The Dorothy Hays class uses the Adult Bible Series for curriculum. The format is primarily lecture with exchange of ideas welcomed by the teacher.

Forty - Sixty

Appeal for those grappling with mid-life issues; fellowship and scripture - based studies; discussion and interaction.

Forum

Teacher: Dr. Jim Heidinger
Meets in Room 13
Ages: Men and women 40+

The class studies the books of the Bible in an in-depth format in which the entire Bible is covered over a ten year period. Old Testament and New Testament books alternate in the cycle, so that portions of both are covered each year. The format for the class is lecture, followed by discussion. Social gatherings are usually held about four times a year.

Prospects Unlimited

Teacher: Dr. Bill Arnold
Meets in Room 14
Ages: Working singles and couples with children of all ages

Dr. Arnold, a professor of Old Testament at Asbury Theological Seminary, leads Bible study, generally focussing on books/topics from the Old testament. A typical class might include close reading of passages, explanation of historical context, and discussion of application to our lives.

In the summer, class members take turns teaching from self-directed studies. Class members gather socially several times throughout the year and often include children.
