Servant Role: Mid High Sunday School Teacher/Facilitator
Description:

Adult leadership position working with youth – options include working with Mid High age group (grades 6 – 8) or Senior High age group (grades 9 – 12).  Youth Counselors participate in UMYF alongside the youth, including eating dinner, attending worship (combined Mid High & Senior High ages), and lessons (often separated into Mid High & Senior High age groups, although some combined lessons).  Youth Counselors choose level of leadership – leading lessons, leading worship devotional, other involvement.

Youth Counselors are encouraged to establish same-sex mentoring relationships with 2-3 youth in which Counselors spend time with the youth outside of UMYF activities; this time can be in person, over the phone, over the Internet or through cards/other correspondence.

Training: Staff will train.
Days/Hours of Service: Sunday evenings from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.
Location for Serving: Primarily at the Church with some off-site trips and/or retreats.
Qualifications
Must have a heart for youth and a desire to mentor youth in Christian faith. Youth Counselors are not expected to act like the teens they mentor but to love the teens they mentor when they act like teens. All Youth Counselors must undergo routine background check before beginning work with the Youth.
